Three blocks of more than 300 competitors each, for a total of 906 participants, took to the ground in Lac Leamy Park for the 29th edition of the Gatineau Triathlon. Despite a different event format tainted by strict sanitary measures, the pleasure of competing again in ideal event weather was visible on everyone's face. The organizing committee would like to thank all its partners, especially the City of Gatineau and Première Générale Gatineau, as well as all the volunteers who make this event possible year after year. All proceeds from the event will be used by the Club Espoir Triathlon to continue its mission to promote an active lifestyle through the practice of triathlon and to support excellence in the practice of this sport for youth aged 7 to 17.
Triathlon Canada announces the cancellation of the 2021 Age Group World Championship Qualification Program
Triathlon Canada has made the decision to cancel the 2021 World Age Group Qualification Program completely. The Gatineau Triathlon races, namely the Sprint Triathlon and Aquathlon, will no longer serve as qualifying races for the 2022 World Championships. Under the current process, participants in these races were required to pay a fee to Triathlon Canada and complete an Expression of Interest form within three weeks prior to the qualifying races to indicate their interest in obtaining a qualifying spot. They would then attempt to qualify by finishing in the top of their age group. As the program was not opened, no Gatineau Triathlon participant paid the additional premium for a qualifying position this year. We are as disappointed as you are with this decision, but look forward to being one of the few major events in Canada that still takes place and promise you a top quality event as usual on July 31st.
It is now official, the 29th edition of the Gatineau Triathlon will take place on July 31, 2021 at the Lac Leamy Park. We promise you a day of racing following strict hygiene and social distancing protocols to protect you against COVID 19, but allowing you to practice your favourite sport in a safe environment. Follow us on Facebook to make sure you don't miss anything.
It is with great regret that we have made the decision to cancel the Gatineau Triathlon, which was scheduled for July 4, 2020. This decision is due to the exceptional circumstances related to COVID-19 and was made in accordance with the directives of the various levels of government regarding the gatherings. We had prepared an exceptional program, a more user-friendly race site and an enhanced atmosphere. This is only a postponement because all these improvements and more will be implemented next year. All registrants have now been reimbursed. Until then, keep active and we hope to see you healthy and in great shape in July 2021.
We are really proud to announce that the 28th edition of the Gatineau Triathlon held on July 6, 2019 has been named 'Provincial Event of the Year 2019' at the annual Triathlon Québec Gala on November 9th. Thank you to everyone who makes this beautiful annual event possible and to all the participants who, year after year, give a soul to this annual event. Don't miss the 29th edition on July 4th, we're still promising an event of the highest class.
